Haldi
The pre-wedding ceremony in which turmeric paste is applied to the bride and groom.
Haldi (pithi in Gujarat, manjal in Tamil Nadu, ubtan in the North) is held at each family's home a day or two before the wedding. Turmeric, sandalwood and oil are applied by married relatives for blessing and for the glow, and the mood is usually the most relaxed of the whole week.
