Pada
One of the four quarters of a nakshatra, each 3°20′, with its own naming syllable and navamsa sign.
Every nakshatra is divided into four padas. The pada fixes the naming syllable (the letter a baby's name traditionally starts with), the navamsa sign, and — because nine nakshatras straddle two rashis — sometimes the moon sign itself.
Padas also matter in nadi dosha: several classical exemptions apply when two people share a nakshatra but were born in different padas. An accurate pada needs the birth time.
