The namkaran is the day the baby gets a name, usually within the first few weeks, with a puja and a lunch. Wishes go to the parents on the card with the gift, in the family group with the photo of the baby being whispered the name, and from elders as a blessing. Most of these speak to the parents; the ones to the child are for the card they will keep.

What do you write in a naming ceremony card?
Say the name, say you like it, and bless the child with it: a line like "a name to grow into" works for everyone. Address the parents first; the baby second if you want a line they will keep in the album. Elders add a formal blessing at the end.
When is the namkaran held?
Usually on the eleventh or twelfth day after birth, or within the first few weeks when the family can gather. Some families hold it with the cradle ceremony, some with the annaprashan a few months later. The wishes are the same whichever day it falls on.
