Dating when you actually want to get married

How to date with intent without interviewing people, when to say what you want, how to tell whether someone is on the same road, and when to stop waiting.

Dating with marriage in mind is not the same as interviewing candidates, and the difference decides whether anyone enjoys it.

Say it early, as your own position

Put it on the profile and say it in the first few dates. Not as a question about them, which puts them on the spot, but as a fact about you:

"I should say I am dating with the idea of getting married, not for something casual. No pressure on your side, I just would rather be straight about it."

Almost nobody reacts badly. The people who do have saved you three months, and the honest ones will tell you where they are.

What not to do

Do not run the biodata interview on date two. Salary, exact family details, and a timeline questionnaire turn an evening into a screening and make you memorable for the wrong reason.

The intent should shape the pace and the questions you eventually ask, not the first hour. You are still finding out whether you enjoy this person, which is the necessary condition for everything else.

The four things to establish by month three

  • Do they want marriage at all, and roughly on what horizon.
  • Children, whether and when.
  • Where they intend to live, city and country.
  • Whether they can face their family about you, if that is likely to be difficult.

These do not need to be a formal conversation. They come up naturally across a few months if you let them, and if they never come up in three months that is itself information.

Reading whether you are on the same road

Watch what they do, not what they say. Do they introduce you to friends? Do they make plans more than a month ahead? Have they mentioned you to family? Somebody who wants a future with you starts placing you in it, usually before they say anything explicit.

The reverse pattern is also readable: kept away from their world, no plans beyond next week, and a vagueness that never resolves.

When to stop waiting

Set your own limit privately and honestly. If after a year they cannot say whether they see a future, the answer has been given. Extending it rarely produces a different result, and people who wait three more years almost never describe it as time well spent.

The advantage of the arranged route, borrowed

The one thing the arranged process does better is putting the practical questions on the table early. You can do that inside a dating relationship without any of the formality. Have the money, children and location conversations at month three rather than month thirty.

TrueSaath runs Dating and Matrimony as separate products with separate accounts. If what you want is a marriage the families will run, the matrimony side is built for that; if you want to meet someone first, this side is.

Questions people ask

How do I tell someone I am dating with marriage in mind?

Put it on your profile and say it plainly within the first few dates, as your own position rather than a question about theirs. It filters efficiently and almost nobody minds hearing it stated early.

How long should you date before deciding on marriage?

Most couples who marry well describe somewhere between six months and two years, with the practical conversations happening in the first few months rather than at the end. The number matters less than whether those conversations have happened.
