Being ghosted: what it means and what to do
Why people disappear, why it is almost never about you, whether to send a follow-up, how long to wait, and how not to do it to somebody else.
Ghosting is the most common complaint on every dating platform, and understanding why it happens takes most of the sting out of it.
It is usually not about you
The reasons people disappear, roughly in order of frequency: they decided it was not working and could not face the conversation; they were talking to several people and one became serious; they got back with an ex; something in their life fell apart; or they realised they were not ready to date at all.
Almost none of those is a verdict on you, and you will usually never find out which one it was.
One message, then stop
A single, calm message is fine and sometimes gets a real answer:
"Hey, I have not heard from you in a while. I would rather know either way, no hard feelings if it is a no."
Then stop. A second and third message converts a disappointment into something that will make you cringe later. Do not check their profile daily, and do not ask a mutual friend to investigate.
How long to wait
Two or three days of silence after regular contact usually means something. A week means it is over. There is no need to formally end a thing that ended, and no need to announce your departure.
The specific Indian version
Sometimes the disappearance is not personal at all: a family found out, a rishta was accepted, or someone decided to stop dating and pursue an arranged match without knowing how to say it. This is common, and it explains a good number of otherwise baffling exits.
When it happens after months, or after intimacy
That hurts differently and it is reasonable to be angry. It is still not worth a paragraph sent at midnight. If you want closure, one message asking for a straight answer is the whole of what you can do. Closure mostly comes from a friend, a week, and something else to think about, not from them.
Not doing it yourself
You will want to, at some point, because saying no is harder than fading. It takes one line:
"I have enjoyed talking to you, but I do not think this is going anywhere for me. Wishing you the best."
Nobody has ever regretted receiving that message, and everybody remembers who sent one instead of vanishing. In a country where the same circles overlap constantly, that reputation is also practical.
Ending kindly on TrueSaath Dating is one tap: it sends a considerate close and ends the conversation on both sides, so nobody is left refreshing a chat.

TrueSaath Dating Red flags in a relationshipQuestions people ask
Should I message someone who ghosted me?
One short message is reasonable, then stop. "Hey, I have not heard from you, I would rather know either way" is dignified and occasionally gets an honest answer. More than one turns a disappointment into a situation.
Why do people ghost?
Mostly conflict avoidance rather than cruelty: they decided it was not working and could not face saying so. It is also common when someone is talking to several people at once, or when they got back together with an ex.
